What to Watch: Blood & Water (Netflix)

“I’ve been living with this ghost my whole life”

Seasons: 1

Episodes: 6

This South African coming-of-age Netflix Original follows 17 year-old Puleng Khumalo, who is struggling to deal with the disappearance of her younger sister, who was abducted the same day she was born. Just as Puleng tries to move on from the devastating tragedy, she meets a girl called Fiks (short for Fikile), who she (at first) thinks vaguely resembles her lost sister. Going literally off on a hunch, Puleng begins investigating, and some deeper and darker secrets come to light.

In just six episodes, Blood & Water provides twists, turns, laughs, and shockers, a story that feels authentic not just to the modern-day high-schooler, but has some entertainment value for adults as well. The story progresses well, and the season finale comes at just the right time, it doesn’t feel over-extended or overloaded. The casting and acting was done well, and it’s genuinely got a captivating storyline. An episode is roughly 40 minutes long, and if you’re as serious as I am, you can binge it on a single night even.

Another show to add to you Quarantine Watch List.
